R. Garland Gray strikes just the right note between romance and science fiction in Darkscape: Redemption. There's enough of the former that it keeps the story interesting and yet still keeping it well within the realm of romance and happily ever afters.

I found the depiction of life in the future interesting and the attention to detail made for some of the finer points of the narrative. I would have liked to have learned more about Fallon's abilities and how they would have been seen in this society. She mentioned at some point that she could have had training, and I wanted to know more about why her father denied her said training. I particularly enjoyed the quotes from "Old Earth", although I had to wonder how well Christianity would have survived mankind's foray into space. That said, I wanted to know more about the basis upon which humanity had gone into space and made their lives there -- more background on that and the society and rules would have been welcome. The High Council, for example, and the various worlds that were mentioned briefly but never quite explained in full. To a certain extent, I found their society rather more archaic than I would have though, considering the space setting. Princesses, Lords and so such in space? I would have loved to have had it explained how that all carried over.

I did enjoy this story a great deal and I would be most interested in picking up future stories by this author. Perhaps the previous story in this series.

When she later discovers that he has been kidnapped, she resolves to rescue the haunted man who touched her heart.
