Coryn is a healer mage and when, not too long after he leaves Amaranth after finishing learning his art, he comes across a slave who is dying of a plague, the road he has taken takes a turn he does not expect. "Raffle", as he was named by the tinkers who won him in a raffle, saw his owners die and he, himself, sickened. Coryn heals him and makes Raff his own. They go back to the town whence Raff and the tinkers had come from to aid the other sick. Coryn tries his best, but finds that there are too many sick for him alone to heal. He sends Raff to Amaranth to bring back help. Will Raff be able to make the journey in one piece? Will help arrive in time to save Coryn from himself? Will they be able to find what caused the plague and keep it from reoccurring?

Healing Heart is a story of journeys. One journey is physical in that Coryn journeys away from Amaranth. Another is of discoveries: Coryn finding new facets of himself, finding that he would like to stay in one place even though he thinks he has to leave, Raff finding love that goes beyond the obvious, and of both finding friendships - each in his own way. A third journey is finding what caused the plague - and how to stop it.

Healing Heart was a very good read overall, and recommended, although there is content of a certain nature that some readers could find objectionable.

Coryn is the rarest of mages, a young man with the gift of healing. A chance encounter with a sick slave on the road leads to love unimagined, a match for his gentle heart, and the two to a town riven with plague. It's too much for one inexperienced healer—but still, Coryn will break himself with trying and his new boy's heart in the process. What will it take to heal a healer's heart?
