This is the first book in new (and might I go ahead and predict she will be a huge best – selling author right now) Monica McCarty’s Highlander series. This book was phenomenal! I devoured it and can’t wait to sink my teeth into the rest of the series as soon as I possibly can. For her first time out the writing was truly amazing most authors aren’t this good from the start but Mrs. McCarty has captured the true feel and essence of the Scottish Highlands and their proud and noble people, and woven a tale that you don’t want to miss. So if you are a big fan of Scottish romances, like I am you do not want to miss this one.
Rory is the strong and honorable chief of the proud Macleod Clan. The Macleod’s and the MacDonald’s have been adversaries in a long, bitter, and bloody feud for years. And when King James tries to put a halt to the violence by wedding Rory to Isabel MacDonald in a handfast marriage things quickly turn more than complicated for both Rory and Isabel.
Isabel has been coerced by her family into using her handfast marriage to the Macleod as a means to spy on them and find a way into Dunvegan Castle as well as find the location of the famous Fairy Flag that is a powerful talisman to the Macleod clan. But what neither of them counted on was the passion that would ignite between them right from the start. The more that she learns about Rory and her new family and friends at Dunvegan, the more the thought of betraying them becomes unbearable. Will Isabel betray the man and people whom she has come to love more than her next breath?
