Adelle Laudan has done it again. Smiling Eyes is an emotional, heartfelt story of a teenager coming of age in an abusive home. In the two years since her mother married Ben Stokes, Lizzy has faced increasing abuse culminating the night of her 18th birthday. Her mother, her acoustic guitar, and her cat and chief confidant, Slomo are the only steadying influences in her life.
Adam Woodward, local handyman and avid biker, has eyed Lizzy from afar, too intimated to approach her for a date. When tragedy brings them together, Adam steps in to protect Lizzy from her stepfather, who is determined to claim everything she owns as his.
Smiling Eyes is a taut story of personal loss, found fortune and unexpected friendship. As Adam rides to the rescue, can evil Ben be stopped in time to prevent further tragedy?
Laudan is adept at drawing the reader into the emotional turmoil experienced by her characters. It’s as if we are in the same room as they are, actively experiencing the scene, or riding on the back of a bike with the wind whipping our face. Having read Iron Horse Rider, and now Smiling Eyes, this reader will be waiting with great expectation for more biker stories to come from a very talented author.

Regardless, her heartless stepfather is determined to take what he feels is rightfully his. Handyman, Adam Woodward rides into Lizzy's life and vows to keep her safe, but is it enough to stop the cold, callous determination of Ben Stokes?
