The planet has been devastated by pollution and fertility is a casualty. While the planet is beginning to heal, it’s still has a long way to go. In order to preserve humanity, women are now the ruling sex. Fertile fems have stables with herds of fertile males. But the males have to prove themselves through grueling training, competitions, and self-discipline. If they fail, they are sent to the fields as workers, or turned into slaves. But if they succeed, they become one of the elite, a “stud” to a beautiful fem. Two men who meet and decide to travel together, Jax and Trev, go to compete to become one of these elite. Will they succeed, and will the love that has started to grow between them survive if they do?
I was fascinated by this read. What a dark picture of the future of humanity. With whispers of A Handmaid’s Tale, I was immediately drawn in and read this in one sitting. The fact that women are rare, and fertile women even rarer, it was interesting that all men were more or less raised bi-sexual. The different men who showed up to compete were also interesting, showing how society segregated and worked differently to survive per their venue. The romance of Jax and Trev, while not overtly sexual, was very sweet. The book was very steamy without any real sex. If you are looking for something intriguing and titillating, this would be it.
