Hello Nicole,
Thanks for joining me today on Night Owl Romance.
Tammie King of NOR: To get us started can you please start by telling us a little about what you are working on or have coming out?
Nicole North: Thanks for having me here today! Kilted Lover is
my November release from Red Sage, which I'm excited about! This is a fun, hot
contemporary erotic romance novella in ebook format. Here's what it's about:
When kilted caber-tosser Scott MacPherson tosses Leslie Livingston over his
shoulder to rescue her from two armed thieves trying to steal her priceless
amulet, they are thrust into a deadly but sexy adventure. Though Leslie already
has a lukewarm, uninterested boyfriend, her attraction to Scott is white-hot and
undeniable. She wants to lick this tall, muscular alpha male all over and
explore the depths of eroticism with him. But will he want anything more than
one night once the danger is behind them?
Tammie King of NOR: Could you please tell us a little about yourself?
Nicole North: My background is in psychology and art. But I
found I was more drawn to language and the written word. However, I use
psychology every time I write and create characters. After all, each character
has a psychological makeup, behavior, hang-ups, emotional baggage, fears, etc. I
find creating and exploring their psyches to be fascinating. I also love
exploring relationships and how they develop, which is why romance is a perfect
fit for me.
Tammie King of NOR: If you could be one of the characters from this book – Who would you be? And why?
Nicole North: In Kilted Lover, I'd definitely want to be the
heroine, Leslie because she has an amazing, unforgettable night with Scott
MacPherson, the hottest, yummiest man she's ever met. He's a tall muscular guy
(in a kilt, no less) who is very protective of her. And he's a fantastic,
giving, affectionate, erotic lover. I confess, I'm still half in love with him
myself! Sigh. He's one of my favorite heroes I've ever created.
Tammie King of NOR: Who or what influenced you when you wrote this book? Did you have a CD, Songs, environment, etc?
Nicole North: I'd challenged myself to brainstorm story ideas
that begin at Highland Games. Tossing the caber is one of the most well known
heavy athletics sporting events at Highland Games. A picture of a caber tosser
is generally on the front page of the newspaper in my area at the time of the
local Highland Games. So, I wanted the hero to be skilled at tossing the caber.
I wanted him to be really strong and muscular because... well... that's hot! Of
course, he'd be wearing a kilt while he tossed the caber which makes him doubly
hot.
Tammie King of NOR: Can you please give us a sneak peek into the book?
Nicole North:
Sure! Here's an excerpt of Kilted Lover:
His hot breath fanned her cheek. Her lips tingled with anticipation. She inhaled
his virile scent, heavy with arousing male musk—the kind that drew a woman on a
primal level. His feverish warmth heated her own skin.
Why didn’t he make a move? Did he want her to take the lead? She certainly
wasn’t adept at seducing a man. What should she do first?
She touched his chest and ran her hungry hands over the muscles from his wide
shoulders to the bunched cotton sheet at his waist. She explored him, finding
each chiseled curve and hard plain more enticing than the last. She’d never felt
anyone so masculine and arousing.
“Mmm. Your hands feel good.” His whisper in her hair sent a shudder down her
body. Thrilled she could please him, she kissed his throat. His sharp intake of
breath guided her actions and told her what he liked. She brushed her lips
across his stubble-covered chin and mouth. His fingers tangled gently in her
hair.
Was it restraint that caused his hands to tremble?
The second meeting of their lips ignited the explosion. A flame of need and
emotion licked through her, consuming all rational thought. She craved him so
fiercely, she ate at his mouth like a woman starved. Her body ached for him, and
her heart pounded. “Scott. Scott—”
“Shh, baby, slow down,” he whispered.
Tears burned her eyes. She could hardly draw breath. Why? What did this man do
to her? He sparked the most profound, primal yearning in her and at the same
time, her soul craved to entwine itself around his and never let go.
Tammie King of NOR: Please tell us what you have planned next?
Nicole North: Next summer, July 2010, Beast in a Kilt will be
released in the print anthology, Secrets Volume 29 from Red Sage. This is
another story I love and had a blast writing. It's a historical paranormal
erotic romance. This is what it's about: Scottish lady, Catriona MacCain has
loved Torr Blackburn since she was a girl, but he only sees her as his best
friend’s little sister. Now she’s promised to a detestable chieftain her family
has chosen for her and desperately wants Torr to save her from the horrible fate
of marrying the man. Torr is cursed to spend his nights as a kelpie water demon
and doesn’t believe himself worthy of virginal Lady Catriona, but she is
determined to seduce him and claim him… body, heart and soul, if only they can
defeat the enemies who vow to possess and enslave them both.
Tammie King of NOR: What kind of research did you do for this book? Did you enjoy the research process?
Nicole North: For Kilted Lover and Devil in a Kilt, doing
research at Highland Games here in the US was important because both stories
begin in a Games setting. I love attending Highland Games for many reasons.
Almost every man you see at those is wearing a kilt. Most women know there's a
certain sex appeal to a man in a kilt! Visiting Scotland was, of course, my
favorite type of research. I LOVE doing research in person, where I can see
everything and get involved. I'm a visual learner. And I like to explore things
with my senses. Smelling and tasting Scottish food. Watching a sword fight
demonstration. Smelling the damp, cool air of the Highlands... with a trace of
peat smoke. Touching the castle walls, standing stones or heather.
Tammie King of NOR: What would you like to tell your readers?
Nicole North: I try to make my erotic romance stories sexy,
scorching and physically appealing but most of all I want them to be emotionally
satisfying and romantic. Erotic love can be a powerful thing, and that includes
intimacy, communication, connection, exploration, indulging. I want the reader
to fall in love with the heroes I create.
Tammie King of NOR: Do you belong to a critique group? If so, how does this help or hinder you?
Nicole North: Yes, I've been a member of a fantastic critique
group (Rebels) for years. They're friends as well as CPs. They always help! It's
so important that the critique group fit the writer.
Tammie King of NOR: Can you please give us a sneak peek at any of your upcoming books?
Nicole North: I'd love to. Here is a sneak peek at Beast in a
Kilt, my paranormal historical novella coming next summer in Red Sage Secrets
Volume 29:
She moved toward him, this man she’d loved even before she knew what love was.
Tentatively, she touched his hair. Silky and soft.
He stiffened but said naught. Her hands shook with reverence and the thirst to
explore him. She brushed her fingertips over his ear, the upper part of his
cheek, the stubble covering his square masculine jaw.
His breath caught. “Catriona? Nay,” he whispered but remained still. He would
not meet her gaze.
Look at me. She trailed her fingers down to his strong chin, the short whiskers
scraping the pads of her fingers. Touching his lips snatched her strength.
Torr, I have loved you… no, she could not say it. Instead she bent and pressed
her lips to his. She knew not how to kiss properly, the way a man would like,
but she wished to.
His lips pushed against hers a bit, then parted, his breath warming her. She
kissed him again and did what she’d seen others do when kissing, she flicked her
tongue against his upper lip. Oh, that feels nice. She yearned to taste him all
over.
He groaned. “God’s bones, lass. Ye’re playing with fire.” He tugged her to him
and returned the kiss with more force, sliding his tongue between her lips. And
then she knew what he’d meant; her body was on fire, her lower belly, between
her legs, an aching burning need. So overwhelming she knew not what to do next
except hold onto him. They would become lovers; he would marry her. It had to
be.
He surged upward, taking her with him to his tall height, and pinned her to the
wall by the window. Her heart raced. He wrapped her legs about his waist and
filled her mouth with eager and sinful tongue kisses. Oh good heavens, what
would he do next?

Tammie King of NOR: What was your first published work and when was it published?
Nicole North: My first novella, Devil in a Kilt in Secrets
Volume 27 Untamed Pleasures, was released in July. It's a print book available
from all online retailers and in bookstores. Devil in a Kilt: A trip to the
Highland Games turns into a trip to the past when modern day psychology
professor Shauna MacRae touches Gavin MacTavish’s four-hundred-year-old
claymore. What she finds is a Devil In a Kilt she’s had erotic fantasies about
for months. Can Shauna break the curse imprisoning this shape shifting laird and
his clan before an evil witch sends Shauna back to her time?
Tammie King of NOR: Who is your perfect hero? And why?
Nicole North: My perfect hero is my husband. He's always been
super supportive and encouraging about my writing. He knows how much I love it
and he often believes in me more than I do myself. For him to have that much
confidence in my abilities is truly inspiring.
