Hello Karen,

The girls of Night Owl Romance are pleased that you have granted us an interview

We would love to get to know you.

Could you please start by telling us a little about yourself?

Well I’ve been writing romance for over two years and been published for almost two. I am published with quite a few e-publishers including Ellora’s Cave, Samhain Publishing and Amber Quill Press. I’m a stay at home mom of three kids and fit my writing in where I can.

What’s your favorite genre to read?

Hmm, well I love many genres, it’s so hard to pick. I like contemporary, historical, some paranormal. I read erotic romance because I like to keep up on what’s going on. I don’t read a lot of mystery anymore though I used to. I even love me some grisly true crime!  LOL

What do you do on a typical writing day?

Well after getting the kids off to school I’ll tell myself that since I am child-free for a few hours, I should write. But instead I’ll surf the net, check my favorite forums, check my email, blog hop, go to myspace, and basically waste time. Then I realize I have an hour till I go pick up my children so maybe I’ll hurry up and write a little bit.

Hot Santa - Purchase Now!Can you please give us a sneak peek at any of your upcoming books?

Fortune’s Deception, about a woman who won the lottery, is coming out March 4th from Samhain Publishing.

Stolen Hearts, a Jewel of the Nile story, is coming out April 11th from Ellora’s Cave.

Too Tempting, an older woman/younger man novella, is coming out in May from Ellora’s Cave.

And sometime in April my futuristic entitled Love’s Prisoner will be out with AQP/Amber Heat.

What do you do for inspiration?

Reading first and foremost. I read not only books but magazines too, especially Cosmo. I feel like an old lady with kids, so not like the young single women I write about.  I also watch certain TV shows, movies or whatever for inspiration.

Is there a genre of book you would like to write but haven't yet?

I would love to write a historical! The research has always intimidated me but I’ve decided that this year, I’m not going to let that hinder me. So I plan on writing one sometime during 2008. Wish me luck!

Purchase Now - Santa BabyDo deadlines help or hinder your muse?

Deadlines help me. Sometimes they send me into a panic but really, they keep me motivated and keep me going. So bring on the deadlines!

When did you first decide to submit your work? Please, tell us what or who encouraged you to take this big step.

Well after having my third child and being a stay at home mom, I realized that I should do something about that writing thing I kept putting off for so many years. I had the time (well barely) and I’d always wanted to try so I went for it. Wrote a couple of stinkers and then wrote a short and hot story. That ended up being my first sale.

What is the best and worst advice you have ever received?

Well the absolute best advice I’ve received is just finish the book. It’s the best thing you can do because then you have something to work with. If you just rework the first chapters, or give up because you’re blocked and start something new, well that’s a cycle that is so hard to get out of. Trust me because I’ve been there.

Do you outline your books or just start writing?

I’m a pantster who must plot a little bit, have a loose outline before I start. But only a little bit. For the most part, I just sit my butt in the chair and start typing. When I get stuck though I grab a notepad and start writing out a little list of what should happen next. It helps me figure it out, that pen on paper feel. Weird.

Purchase Now - Breaking FreeWhat was your first published work and when was it published?

Release Me, a novella that was published by Cobblestone Press in August of 2006. It’s still available, such a fun little story to write! And naughty too **wink wink**.
