We would love to get to know you.

Could you please start by telling us a little about yourself?

I’m Donna Grant, author of historical/dark fantasy romances.  I have three series out now  - The Druid’s Glen, The Shields and The Royal Chronicles.  All can be found on my website at www.donnagrant.com

If you could be one of your characters - Who would you be? And why?

Oh, what a hard choice.  I think it would have to be Elle from A KIND OF MAGIC.  Not only does she get to time travel back to Medieval times, but then she gets caught up in such a great adventure as well as discovering her mate and being taken to his realm.  She gets to see and do it all – just my kind of fun!

What's your favorite genre to read?

I love historical, its what I go to first and foremost.  However, I also enjoy when authors mix some paranormal or fantasy elements in those historicals.

What do you do on a typical writing day?

My typical writing day….::taps finger to chin::

Husband and I get up, fed the children, get them ready for school (unless its summer).  While husband is getting ready for work, I go to my office and read/answer emails.  I post to my blog and begin my day long chat with three other friends of mine.  In between emails to my 3 friends, I pull up my book and begin writing.  I write between 15-20 pagesaday, breaking only for lunch, to take the dog out and read emails from 3 friends. :)

I usually have my count reached by 4pm so I can play with kids and start dinner for when husband comes home from work.

Can you please give us a sneak peek at any of your upcoming books?

The last three books in my Shield  series are coming out later this year.  Book 3 (A Dark Seduction) is due out in July and Book 4 (A Forbidden Temptation) is due in September. 

Please tell us what you have planned next?

I’m writing the 5th and final book in my Druid’s Glen series.  Then I’m turning my attention to finishing the last 2 novellas in my Royal Chronicle series. After that, I’ll begin the first books in three new series, more historical/dark fantasy.

Who is your perfect hero?  And why?

Aragorn from Lord of the Rings.  He’s the absolute perfect hero with inner demons, the need to do what’s right, strength, and love.

What do you do for inspiration?

Take a shower, mow the lawn or just listen to music.  All three help in various ways. 

What kind of research do you do for your books? Do you enjoy the research process?

I love research.  I always find wonderful little tidbits that I can use for future books.  Some even spark ideas for future series.  I never know what I’ll find when I open a research book, which makes it all the more fun.

Do deadlines help or hinder your muse?

Even before I was published, I set deadlines for myself.  Always.  It helped me to know how far I could push myself, and how far I couldn’t.  It’s a great way to get prepared for when you do get published.

When did you first decide to submit your work? Please, tell us what or who encouraged you to take this big step.

My parents always told me that if I wanted something to go after it. So, after I finished my first novel, I looked at the publishing world and tried to figure out what to do.  It wasn’t easy, but two books and a year later I found Romance Writer’s of America.  From there I knew if I ever wanted to see my work published I’d have to take the plunge and submit it.

Do you outline your books or just start writing?

I just start writing.  I can’t outline, because to me, the book is then written.  I have a general idea of where I know the book will go.  I do character interviews with the main characters to get a real feel for them, then I start writing.

The few times my editor as asked me to turn in a synopsis first, the synopsis is only about two pages long, single spaced.  I can’t get too far into the story that way or I’ll never be able to write it.
