Hello Liza,
Thanks for joining me today on Night Owl Romance.
Tammie King of NOR: To get us started can you please start by telling us a little about what you are working on or have coming out?
Liza Curtis Black: I've just released "Endland Chronicles
Book One: Salvation For Three". This is a science fiction menage with a m/f/m
theme. It's the story of Keer, a female bounty hunter who is a rare Terran
female with the ability to breed. She's safely hidden her fertility to keep from
being imprisoned in the ranks of the skin trade. Keer is about to meet her
match(es) in Tirin and Cian (pronounced Sean), two totally male, alpha warriors
who know that she is the third in their Endland Triad.
Tammie King of NOR: Could you please tell us a little about yourself?
Liza Curtis Black: I'm a working wife, mother and avid reader. After I
finish my day job in the office, you can usually find me either having a glass
of wine outside with my spouse or typing away at my next book. My favorite
writing companion is my giant dog who listens to me mutter and thinks I'm a
genius. (Since he can't talk, I'm just assuming since I'm the one who feeds
him....)
Tammie King of NOR: If you could be one of the characters from this book – Who would you be? And why?
Liza Curtis Black: Well Keer is the obvious choice. She's
more daring that I would be and VERY strong. I think she's already got my sense
of humor (she tends to mutter to herself now and again...) but that language!
LOL! I'd have to clean that up a little.
Tammie King of NOR: Who or what influenced you when you wrote this book? Did you have a CD, Songs, environment, etc?
Liza Curtis Black: I listened to a little elektronica and spa
to get the feel while I was writing. Hard rock worked in the scene where Keer is
trying to fly out of the Endlands. Boy did I type fast!
Tammie King of NOR: Can you please give us a sneak peek into the book?
Liza Curtis Black:
Absolutely!
She stretched out and forced herself to begin a fast jog, pulling
the runner with her. He continued laughing wildly as they ran toward the
descending freighter, the dust swirling in dark clouds around them.
"Too late, bond hunter. The storms are coming. When the storms come,
they come."
The freighter gate dropped and she scrambled up the gangway, pulling
the man behind her. Keer pushed the runner into the jump seat and yelled over
the rising wind at the security drone.
"Keer Teho requesting return to prison ship Agreeb. Now."
The gate began to rise as the security drone repeated her commands
and accessed the space coordinates of the Agreeb. She watched as the metal wall
rose, creaking, pulling the door in a slow ascent. The storm had swirled so much
dust into the cargo bay that she could barely make out the shape of a trawler as
it flew toward the ship across the reservoir. She saw two figures jump out and
begin a forward run.
Even from the distance, they were huge, muscled men with squared
shoulders wrapped in the traditional Endlands robes against the sand, faces
covered from the raging wind. They did not pause against the blow of the red
storm but accelerated the pace.
"Gate Closed!" She nearly shrieked the command, knowing full
well that it would not hurry the process on the old ship. "Terran mother, get
that thing up before they get to the ship. Before they get to me!" The pace of
the two giants running across the dirt toward the gate, as if no red lunar dust
existed, chilled her blood.
Keer knew they did not come for the runner who continued to laugh
from the jump seat. She could see intent in those strides. They knew she was
here. They knew she was ripe for mating and were coming for her.
As the gate finally reached near closure, she focused on the face of
the closest man, terrified. His stare pierced through the dust, the color of
Terran sun and precious amber. His hair, the wild gold in her hallucination,
escaped the headcover, blowing against his face.
She ran to the gangway, still watching, grabbing a gate hold to pull
up as the door closed, and peered out before the latch engaged. The blond giant
ripped the cover from his head and looked across the plain at her. His jaw
clenched in anger. He cupped his hands and called through the winds of the lunar
storm.
"Woman." The voice boomed, echoing into the cabin. Keer gasped. She
could hear him. In her mind, the voice resounded, loud and penetrating.
Telepaths and hunters. Gods knew what else they were capable of. "Woman. We
come."
Tammie King of NOR: Please tell us what you have planned next?
Liza Curtis Black: Right now I'm diligently finishing
"Endland Chronicles - Book Two". This book is another science fiction erotic
menage, m/f/m. The characters from "Salvation For Three" will be appearing in
this story as secondary characters.
Tammie King of NOR: What kind of research did you do for this book? Did you enjoy the research process?
Liza Curtis Black: I absolutely love doing research! To get
my head into a sci-fi mode I surfed the net for hours reading interviews with
science fiction writers like Heinlein, who I have always admired. I also
reviewed alot of science fiction art from various people around the world. That
brought my vision of the Endlands to mind. Also, I had traveled to Red Rocks,
outside Las Vegas a few years ago and driven up into the hills. I remember being
on Lake Mead in the heat of August thinking how alien the landscape was. The red
orange soil there really is very much how I envision the Endlands.
Tammie King of NOR: What would you like to tell your readers?
Liza Curtis Black: Salvation For Three is really just the
beginning of what I hope will be a great series. I'd love to hear from you and
what you'd like to see happen with the Endland Chronicles!
Tammie King of NOR: Do you belong to a critique group? If so, how does this help or hinder you?
Liza Curtis Black: I spend my time writing a few other
authors, mostly from Siren-Bookstrand. We bounce ideas off each other regularly
and provide support to each other. It's really a pleasure to talk to the
author's I've been reading for quite a few years now!
Tammie King of NOR: Can you please give us a sneak peek at any of your upcoming books?
Liza Curtis Black:
You bet.
Endland Chronicles - Book Two is the story of Aldiss Loe, an
Alliance reporter who's found a way onto the prison ship Agreeb. Aldiss is
unusual in that she's a Terran female (a/k/a an 'earther') who has no genetic
enhancements. Aldiss has gotten herself into trouble and two alpha males,
Merrick and Xan get heavily involved in her investigation. She's about to find
out about an Endland triad with two pretty hot guys!
Tammie King of NOR: Is there anything else you would like to share with readers?
Liza Curtis Black: Look for a western from me, hopefully by
January 2010. I'm a huge history buff and Siren is working on a line of western
themed erotica that will be historical. This isn't your 1970's bodice ripper,
it's made of sterner stuff!
Tammie King of NOR: What would be the best way for readers contact you? Do you have a website? Email address? MySpace site? Blog? Message Board? Group?
Liza Curtis Black: You can email me at lizacurtisblack @
yahoo.com (no spaces) or find me lurking on the Reader's boards at
Siren-bookstrand. Give me a shout out, I'm always happy to chat with another
reader!

Tammie King of NOR: When did you first decide to submit your work? Please, tell us what or who encouraged you to take this big step?
Liza Curtis Black: I had been writing for many years but was
frustrated with my inability to get a publisher to read my stuff. Fiction is a
very tough market to crack! Finally I thought about what I read, what I really
found enjoyable and what seemed to be popular. Fortunately I had found
electronic publishing early on, before Kindle was so immensly popular and that
made me think "Hey, I can do this!"
Tammie King of NOR: What was your first published work and when was it published?
Liza Curtis Black: Not counting various forays into poetry
when I was a high school student, I was published about nine years ago writing
some online erotica and received some great feedback. While I wasn't paid for
that work it gave me the push I needed!
Tammie King of NOR: What is the best and worst advice you have ever received?
Liza Curtis Black:
The best advice was "Don't give up!" from my family who had great
faith in me.
The worse advice was "Electronic books are just vanity press. They
aren't 'real' books."
Tammie King of NOR: Do you outline your books or just start writing?
Liza Curtis Black: I tap out a few notes but no, I do not
outline. I have tried but I find that just blasting away works best for me.
Tammie King of NOR: Who is your perfect hero? And why?
Liza Curtis Black: Oh he's definitely the fairly traditional
TD&H, tall dark and handsome. He's also very, VERY alpha male and smart as a
whip. I've always been drawn to the dark hero who becomes the devoted mate.
Tammie King of NOR: Is there a genre of book you would like to write but haven't yet?
Liza Curtis Black: The western that I'm hoping to start soon!
Thank you for this opportunity!
